An image of the US flag in the background, and on top of it is a sign, white outline with blue filling in the negative spaces, it has the white outline of a donkey with the four stars representing the Democratic party, and it reads "Democrats."
Perpetually making an ass out of you and me.

Democrats need to really stand with LGBTQ+ people. This is one of those times where the “rule of law” and rules of order need to be tossed out the window in the face of oppression. Quite frankly, they should have been doing this for generations, because black folks have been experiencing this shit non-stop and the Democrats will claim to be their representation, and then vote for more police funding while kneeling in Kente cloth.

That said, they need to turn the fuckery ship around, and now, before they just kill the party in every way except the name (which some think they’ve already done, and by some I mean me).

Now, am I saying trans people hold the keys to victory? Lol no. What I am saying is that the Democrats are, as a party, pushing more and more towards a centrist position that enables fascists to run roughshod right over top of them despite many rank and file Democrats being against this move, and until they plant their feet in the dirt and actually start pushing back, in bigger numbers and with political force of will, we’re all going to lose ground, and by we I mean those of us out here who are vulnerable, and not the Democratic machine, which will keep right on chugging, embracing Cheneys and Bushs while claiming to be the party of the working class, and you better believe LGBTQ+ people are a part of the working class, even though Republicans think we’re all clueless academics and soft handed hippies.

A lot of us have already lost faith, but we voted for the Democrats anyway because it was clear that Donald Trump was just going to fucking destroy what tatters of freedom some of us had left. So we held our noses, prayed a prayer, and pressed the button for Kamala Harris, hoping against hope that she would put some measure of effort into at least slowing down the injustices taking place. She lost, which you’d think would mean the Democrats would leap to protect as many people as possible before the handover of power to Trump and his fascist regime.

Unfortunately, while some in the media begins to change their tune on Trump (see Morning Joe), the Biden White House welcomed Trump with smiles, because that’s what you do when you’ve talked about the greatest threat to humanity in generations is about to gain power from the very office you’re leaving. Mike Johnson pushes an anti-trans bathroom bill effective against his very own colleagues in congress, and the one person whom it would affect immediately and to her detriment immediately gave in, calling it a distraction for real issues, when there are millions of trans people in this country who will very much have to face the bigotry these policies embolden.

So here we go into the darker corridors of fascism, with a lame duck party that has essentially given up, and an incoming fascist party that will make many of our lives so much worse, and who will help? Who will step up and try to actually protect people, who will try to build inroads into communities to meet people’s material needs? What is all of this going to do for us? Will it lead to a Democratic win in 2028? Maybe, but how many of us who are barely here now will be there by the time we arrive?
