I’m so disappointed in Jack Black.
Kyle made a comment the other day, when he was asked to make a wish on his birthday, he said “next time, don’t miss.” It was an obvious reference to the Trump rally in PA.
Now, everyone in the crowd laughed, but today Jack Black said he was surprised by the statement, and disavowed it. He also canceled the rest of the Tenacious D tour.
As far as I’m concerned, he’s stabbed poor Kyle in the back for making a joke many of us would make.
It’s like, folks, if Donald Trump is Hitler, you do not have to be offended on his behalf when someone makes an attempt on his life. He’s a big boy. You can make jokes. You can laugh at the silliness they’re now pursuing at the RNC.
Laugh at them. Mock them. Be angry at them. It’s okay. They’re awful people. Fuck ’em.
Now, is it possible it’s some kind of joke? Tenacious D has a history of “we broke up and now we’re back together!” but I don’t know. It just feels like this one’s different because they have canceled the tour.
If it is real, then I feel that Jack Black decided to toss aside a 30 year friendship to preserve his career in Hollywood.
Normally, what celebrities do doesn’t concern me, but I love these guys, always have, because I’ve loved the hell out of their music since the 1990s, and I see it as indicative of what this environment of political and social unrest has done to real talent, and real friendships.
I didn’t have Donald Trump getting shot at causing one of my favorite bands to break up, but here we are. That said, you don’t have to feel offended for someone who is truly awful, truly evil. If Donald Trump is Hitler, why would you wish him well and defend him from jokes about what happened? Make up your mind about what you truly believe and stick to it.
