I was just watching V (1983) and V: The Final Battle (1984), and I love the message it’s sending in its wonderfully early 1980s mini-series movie glory. It tackles subjects like fascism, abortion, murder, genocide, and other heavy topics that we still argue about today, but it does it in such a way that you really feel the urgency behind the message.
It’s such a shame that we’re still dealing with these issues today, and in some cases things are so much worse, like women’s rights when it comes to bodily autonomy and abortion, and once more we’re watching fascism rear its ugly head once again.
The only thing that has really changed is the technology that makes it so much easier for fascism and white nationalism to take root and keep the population under control.
If the Visitors of the 1980s had the same technology we do now, most people would likely have better controlled and would be actively fighting the Fifth Column and the Resistance even if right now they claim otherwise.
If you get the chance, maybe rewatch the series. You can see part 1 on the Internet Archive in the link below.

It’s well worth checking out, especially in a time where we’re going to start seeing it happen, in some respects, in real time.
