So what is Starleaf?
Starleaf is my personal blog page. I’m not on most social media sites anymore, since a lot of what I believe in as a leftist gets censored by the site itself, or dogpiled by its users until my responses can’t be seen, so I started a blog where I can just post what I think and how I feel, knowing it’s my space to do it in. I’d like you to keep in mind, when you read, that I generally write as a stream of consciousness. I don’t pre-plan most of what I want to say beyond “I feel the need to put this out there because I’ll burst if I don’t.”
So don’t expect polished, essay length posts 99.9% of the time. It’s just me saying what’s on my heart. I have no intentions of turning any of this into academic reading. There will be spelling errors, grammatical errors, and so on, and while I will try to correct them, sometimes they will be written that way on purpose, because that’s how I think and speak and I want you to experience that cadence as closely as possible.
What does Starleaf mean?
As usual, there’s never just one reason for me.
The immediate meaning is simply the combination of the word star and leaf. The star represents my love of space, of astronomy, and the word leaf represents my love and respect for our Earth, nature, the environment and how we need to take care of it. There are more meanings, though.
“Leftist?”
Well, I like to think of myself as a Marxist-Leninist, but that would be too simplifying. I like Lenin’s idea that socialism is something that evolves and adapts to its material surroundings, and so I try to take the best of what I’ve learned from history and the best of what I experience every day, living in this capitalist system, and fusing it. Some people would call that revisionist, and they are free to do so, but if a system cannot meet the needs of its people or address their common concerns, then it is a useless system, IMO.
Why is your nickname “Red Martian?”
Because, as a socialist, red is associated with my political ideology. It’s not my favorite color, that would be purple, but I do like the color red, and I do like its use in socialist flags and artworks. As for the “Martian” aspect, Mars is my favorite planet, after Earth of course.
Do You Like Movies and Stuff?
I sure do! The likes and dislikes you’ll see as you read my blog. Favorite movies? Well, I’m a cinephile, so I love thousands of movies. I’d have to say one of my favorite films is Mel Brooks’ “Blazing Saddles.” As far as I’m concerned, you will never find a more brilliant satire of white supremacist oppression, all wrapped in a delicious shell of US western nostalgia.
I also love music! Jazz, easy listening, classic rock, heavy metal, R&B, rap and spoken word, electronic, dance, and so on. I will give everything a chance. I am a fan of the Alan Parsons Project, for example. Their combination of thought provoking lyrics, electronic harmonies, and progressive rock standards just combine to make a great aural feast.
You may now add “aural feast” to words you didn’t think you’d read today on the internet.
In Conclusion
I hope that gives you an idea of who I am, and I hope you stick around to read some of the things I want to say. You don’t have to agree with them, just remember that this is where I get to write about them without other people shouting me down.
Happy days to you.
